About Me

One of the things that is very important to me is to be active! Whether I am going on a walk with my dog, Halo, hiking, or leading a yoga class, I find I am the best version of me when I am moving.  Another fun fact about me is I have been a babysitter and nanny for a variety of families over the last 13 years with children ranging from four weeks to fifteen years old. It is a job I cherished and am incredibly close with a few of the families still to this day. I love everything about working with kids! They are so honest, open, and fun.

AGES SEEN

Ages 7-16

Mariah enjoys the variety that working with different ages brings! While she has the most experience working with elementary aged kids, she also loves to work with pre-teens and teens. She enjoys that elementary kids are playful and while are concrete they are starting to be more critical thinkers. Whereas, tweens and teens are entering a really tough time in development where there is a lot of uncertainty, confusion, and struggles with emotional regulation and she enjoys being able to help them navigate this. Mariah is great a building rapport, even with difficult to engage clients.

PHILOSOPHY

Mariah believes it is so important to intervene early on in children’s lives to help provide the tools to cope with and process emotions as they develop and gain more experiences. She wants to help not only guide them, but give them the tools and skills they need to be successful. Mariah knows that parent’s involvement is an essential component of their child’s mental health and treatment. She believes a parent should be given an active role in therapy so that they may best support their child through their therapeutic journey. It is important that parent’s feel supported so that they may better support their child.

What is a quote, motto, mantra, saying, etc that has meaning to you personally?

“All that you need is within you.” I repeat this several times a day every to myself. To me this mantra is a grounding reminder that no matter what may come, I have the tools necessary to respond and act accordingly in a way that will promote my health and wellbeing.

Tell me about your professional goals/dream/desires for yourself in the next few years...

Over the next few years, I would like to continue to build upon my experience and education, gaining more field experience and deepening my understanding of issues that client’s face. I also want to prioritize trainings to gain better knowledge of evidence-based interventions and how to appropriately apply them uniquely to each client.

If you could give parents one piece of advice, what would it be?

Humans crave structure and routine, especially children. Consistence in direction, boundaries, and expectations will set both you and your child up for success. And extend yourself grace and compassion as a parent who has your own emotions and thoughts.

Education & Experience

Mariah is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Social work from Indiana University. At 8 years old, she knew she wanted to “help people with hard things in their lives.” One of the most rewarding projects she has done in her schooling was to create a non-profit trauma-informed yoga studio that was for survivors of trauma. This deepened her appreciation for understanding the importance of quality education and trainings when working with individuals who have experienced trauma.
