Nicole EMerson, MSW, LCSW

About Me

I loved being in theatre growing up. Acting made me have to step into someone else’s shoes and understand their perspective and help me understand why they do what they do. This is something I do as a therapist too that helps me to relate to other people. I’m also excited that I get to be in the Theater Room in the office- so many fun props!
When I am not at work, you can find me at home with my kids and husband, or when it is finally quiet (iykyk) I love to  watch a few episodes of reality TV or a thriller series while eating my favorite snacks!
Most people would describe me as warm and a good listener. I would describe myself as a friendly and self-motivated person committed to making the world a better place. Clients fine me to be kind, relatable and curious.

AGES SEEN

Nicole loves working with ages 4-11 but sees tweens and teens too.

Nicole’s most ideal client would be a child who is struggling with acting out, and oppositional behaviors. She believes that kids need to have a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood and loves to be one of those people for kids!

PHILOSOPHY

Nicole tries to help kids and families reach lasting change by working with them to implement interventions into their daily lives that are realistic based on their preferences and schedules. Nicole’s favorite interventions are ones that address the parent-child relationship. Nicole is always excited to help parents and children improve their relationship with one another.

Q & A TIME

What is a quote or saying that has meaning to you personally?

My mantra is “I am strong, I am smart, I am worthy”. It helps keep me calm when I am worried or stressed.

What's one piece of advice you would give to parents?

It would be to take care of your mental health! You are your child’s first and most important teacher.

What is your philosophy on parent involvement?

I believe that parents are essential in the change process and rely on parents for their expertise and collaboration in working with their child.

Education & Experience

Both of Nicole’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees are in social work. In undergrad she minored in sociology. She is fascinated by culture, subcultures, and human behavior! Nicole has worked as a therapist with children and adolescents since 2021 and has training in CBT, child-centered play therapy, family focused CBT, Trauma Focused CBT, and MET-CBT. Her favorite training has been in child centered play because the modality  assumes children are natural problem solvers and it allows children to take the lead.
