Courtney Bain, MA, LMHC

About Me

I enjoy the fine arts and being creative by making pottery, cooking, baking, photography, and attending concerts and plays! I’ve been creative since grade school and continued on in high-school serving as a yearbook editor and vice president of the art club. I believe fine tuning my artistic skill set is similar to therapy, in the sense that we are always evolving the more we practice and push ourselves. When I am not working or tapping into my creative side, you can find me spending time with my husband and our pets watching movies and playing board games.

AGES SEEN

8 years and older.

Although Courtney has experience in working with elementary through high school students, her favorite are intermediate to middle schoolers. She loves to be able to provide guidance and support as they are discovering their interests, dislikes, friend groups, and who they are as an individual. Courtney’s most ideal client is one who struggles with regulating their emotions or has been labeled  by others as “difficult”. She prides herself on building meaningful relationships and forming trust with the client in order for them to let their guard down.

PHILOSOPHY

Courntey works to empower her clients (and their families) to focus on what is in their control and use their strengths to achieve lasting change.  She believes that parents should be actively involved in their child’s therapy. She often reminds parents that it is imperative that they are putting in the work for change and growth as much as the child! She loves to teach emotional regulation and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns. She also incorporates expressive therapy modalities such as art and play therapy! She tries to create a relaxed and playful environment in the therapy office in order to allow kids the space to do the hard work of therapy!

Q & A TIME

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as a social introvert who needs balanced social and alone quiet time. I am a great listener and genuinely care about what is going on in the lives of others. My friends and family describe me as the social glue that holds the group together. I often am the one who initiates and plans our get-togethers.

What is a quote, motto, mantra, saying, etc that has meaning to you personally?

“You have been assigned this mountain to show others it can move”
I found this quote during a time I was going through major life transitions both personally and professionally. It reminded me that I am capable of doing hard things and coming out on the other side of it!

If you could give parents one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would advise them to take interest in what their child likes to do whether that’s getting on the floor playing with them, watching their favorite movie/TV show, or listening to their favorite band. Showing genuine interest in what their child likes will help strengthen the relationship between parent and child!
