Courtney Bain, MA, LMHC

About Me

I thoroughly enjoy the fine arts and being creative when I can. When I am not in the office working alongside my clients and families you can find me fine tuning my artistic side at the ceramic studio or in the kitchen trying out new recipes! I also get pretty excited about fall time activities and love to travel when I can!

I also enjoy all things spooky. Halloween is my Christmas and watching scary  movies is an all-season event! I would describe myself as creative, loyal, chatty, and empathetic!

Although Courtney has experience working with elementary through high school students, her ideal client population are intermediate to middle schoolers. She enjoys getting to support them as they are discovering their interests, dislikes, and who they are as an individual. Courtney prides herself in building meaningful relationships and forming trust with the client in order to feel comfortable letting their guard down.

PHILOSOPHY

Courtney works to empower her clients (and their families) to focus on what is in their control and use their strengths to achieve lasting change. She believes that parents should take an active role in the therapeutic process, and often reminds them that they too need to put in the work for change and growth just as much as their child! She loves to incorporate creative modalities when teaching mindfulness and emotional regulation skills and tries to create a relaxed and comforting environment for her clients to do the hard work of therapy!

Q & A TIME

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as a social introvert who needs balanced social and alone quiet time. I am a great listener and genuinely care about what is going on in the lives of others. My friends and family describe me as the social glue that holds the group together. I often am the one who initiates and plans our get-togethers.

What is a quote, motto, mantra, saying, etc that has meaning to you personally?

“You have been assigned this mountain to show others it can move”
I found this quote during a time I was going through major life transitions both personally and professionally. It reminded me that I am capable of doing hard things and coming out on the other side of it!

If you could give parents one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would advise them to take interest in what their child likes to do whether that’s getting on the floor playing with them, watching their favorite movie/TV show, or listening to their favorite band. Showing genuine interest in what their child likes will help strengthen the relationship between parent and child!
