About Me

Welcome! I’m Jacob, a licensed mental health associate who specializes in therapy for anger, ADHD, school issues, self esteem and more!

My two main hobbies are golf and video games. These are both activities that I have been participating in since a young age. I also have a 5 year old dog, a golden doodle named Luna! I would describe myself as hard working, motivated, and a very talkative and social person. People would likely also describe me as funny and a good listener.

AGES SEEN

Jacob enjoys working with children and teens of all ages, from 5 to 17. He has worked with this age range his entire career and truly appreciates the unique perspectives each child brings. Jacob connects well with most clients and has always been a kid at heart. He loves the rapport-building aspect of working with kids and believes each client is unique. He enjoys figuring out what makes them them! For some children, this might involve therapy for anger, while for others, it might be support with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), school difficulties, or other behavioral issues.

PHILOSOPHY

While Jacob’s ideal client would be an individual who is open to new ideas and/or change, he has found that not every client shows up ready to change. Jacob excels at meeting clients where they are and helping them identify what they would like to be different.

Jacob also believes the parents role is vital in the child’s mental health and in the therapeutic process. Having a parent providing input and being supportive during the therapeutic process can impact their child’s mental health in very positive ways

Q & A TIME

What are the therapy modalities and interventions that resonate most with you?

The two main therapeutic modalities that resonate with me the most are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Who is your favorite superhero?

My favorite superhero is Batman, for multiple reasons. One, I just think he is an incredibly cool and interesting character. I also find it incredibly interesting how Batman went through trauma, but through therapy and self-reflection, was able to overcome his trauma and become a good and just person.

How do you try to help kids and families reach lasting change?

I try to help kids and families reach lasting change through the use of evidence based practices, and through the use of motivational interviewing to help inspire change

Education & Experience

Jacob received his masters degree in mental health counseling at Indiana University. Although many different classes stood out to him, he felt the Group Counseling class stood out the most. This is primarily because of the many different mock groups they would use in class, which really helped me to get a better understanding of the group process. Jacob plans to offer groups at ICT as he believes this is a helpful  medium in promoting change while helping kids not feel so alone!
