How do I find the best Indianapolis therapist for my child?

Here's a few things to consider when looking for a therapist for your child.

Finding the Best Therapist in Indianapolis Shouldn’t Be Hard—We Make It Easy!

We know how frustrating it can be to find the right therapist for your child. Every day, we get calls from exhausted parents who have tried everything—asking friends, searching online, and reaching out to their doctor, only to be left feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. You are trying to get your kid help; it shouldn't be that hard!

Experience the ICT difference: When you call us, we answer (or call back in a timely manner). We listen. We help.

At Indy Child Therapist, we take the time to understand what’s going on, gather a few details, and personally match your child with the best therapist on our team. However, if we aren’t the right fit or don’t have availability, we won’t leave you hanging. We’ll provide an up-to-date list of trusted therapists in Indianapolis who might be the perfect match.

Because getting your child the help they deserve should be simple and we’re here to make that happen.

Start with Referrals—But Ask the Right Questions

Getting referrals is a great first step in finding the best Indianapolis therapist for your child. However, don’t just ask who—ask why they recommend them. Every child’s needs and therapy goals are different, so it’s important to find the right fit.

We’re proud that most of our referrals come from happy families and trusted pediatricians—because, ulimately, great care speaks for itself!

Know What You Need in a Therapist

Finding the best Indianapolis therapist for your child starts with knowing what type of help they need. A psychologist provides evaluations and testing, a psychiatrist manages medication, and a therapist focuses on counseling and support.

It’s also important to choose the right evidence-based therapy for your child’s needs. Our Therapy Techniques page can help guide you or a quick internet search can guide you to best therapy practices.

Find a Specialist for Your Child's Unique Needs

While all our therapists are experienced in working with children, some specialize in specific areas like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. We believe in finding the perfect fit for your child's unique needs. Explore our therapists' bios to discover their specialized training and experience. This, in turn, will help you choose the therapist best equipped to support your child on their journey to emotional well-being.

Parent Involvement

At ICT, we believe that parents are vital partners in their child's therapeutic journey. We understand that you know your child best.  Our therapists actively involve parents in the treatment process, providing regular updates and collaborating with you to  support your child's growth at home. Because we only have your child 1 out of 168 hours in a week, we want you to feel equipped to reinforce the work done in therapy.

The Right Connection for Your Child

Because every child is unique and responds to different personalities and approaches, we encourage you to explore our therapists' bios and get a sense of their individual styles. For example, whether your child thrives with a direct and structured approach or connects better with someone who is playful and creative, we have a therapist who can build a strong rapport and create a safe space for them to grow.

Expertise and Evidence-Based Care

It's unfortunate, but not all therapists receive the same level of training or utilize evidence-based practices. We're committed to providing the highest quality care, which is why our therapists are trained in proven-effective treatments specific to your child's needs. We also provide ongoing supervision and support to ensure our therapists stay at the forefront of their field. You can feel confident that your child is receiving the best possible care.
