Courtney Bain, MA, LMHC
About Me
HI! I’m Courtney, a licensed mental health counselor specializing in behavioral therapy for issues such as anger, anxiety, and ODD.
I really enjoy being creative & traveling with friends & family whenever I can. When I am not in the office working alongside my clients and families you can find me at the pottery studio getting messy throwing clay, in the kitchen trying a new recipe, or out practicing mindfulness skills in nature. Some of my favorite places for quick day trips include Lake Michigan, Brown County, and Eagle Creek Park! I prefer the cooler months despite having a summer birthday & I get pretty excited for Spooky Season. Decorating for Halloween and watching creepy/scary movies is my jam! I often decompress after work snuggled up watching a Tim Burton movie or a good crime show with my husband, our two dogs, and cat.

Although Courtney has experience working with elementary through high school students, her ideal client population are intermediate to middle schoolers. She enjoys getting to support them as they are discovering their interests, dislikes, and who they are as an individual. Courtney prides herself in building meaningful relationships and forming trust with the client in order to feel comfortable letting their guard down. Her approach is particularly effective for those seeking behavioral therapy, as building trust and rapport are crucial for addressing behavioral issues.

PHILOSOPHY
Courtney works to empower her clients (and their families) to focus on what is in their control and use their strengths to achieve lasting change. She believes that parents should take an active role in the therapeutic process, and often reminds them that they too need to put in the work for change and growth just as much as their child! She loves to incorporate creative modalities when teaching mindfulness and emotional regulation skills. Courtney works to create a relaxed and comforting environment for her clients to do the hard work of therapy!
Courtney works primarily from a CBT, DBT, and mindfulness lens with creative/art interventions utilized as clients desire.
Q & A TIME
How would you describe yourself?
What is a quote, motto, mantra, saying, etc that has meaning to you personally?
If you could give parents one piece of advice, what would it be?
Courtney has been so patient and willing to meet my daughter where she’s at. She has always done what is best for my daughter. Her communication with me is excellent, and I feel that she truly cares about our family and my daughter’s well being.
My child and our family has had a great experience with Courtney. She asks great questions to really get to the heart of what’s going on. One thing I appreciate most is that her approach is kind without being coddling. And she’s authentic in showing her interests, who she is as a person. Courtney is the perfect fit for our child, and she has progressed more than ever under her care.
Courtney is a fantastic therapist. She knows how to connect with our son and makes him feel safe and heard. His progress has been remarkable, and we are very pleased with the way Courtney sets up his exposures and challenges him while also being very careful to meet him where he is and not push him too hard. It has been relieving to watch him overcome some big fears and wonderful to see his bravery and self-confidence grow.
Courtney has been wonderful in meeting our daughter where she’s at and working with her to do what she needs to do. Courtney has been supportive of both our child and us (mom and dad) – helping us to understand her better and encouraging our relationship and how we can help.
